My remote productivity office.
I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I’m really just procrastinating. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.
Workstation
13” MacBook Pro, Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM (2017)
Looking forward to upgrading to an M1 or M2. But not today :)
Predator X34 Curved Gaming Monitor
I prefer having a single, ultri-wide display over multiple monitors.
IBM Model M SSK Industrial Keyboard
They don’t make keyboards the way they used to. I buy these any time I see them go up for sale and keep them in storage in case I need parts or need to retire my main.
Apple Magic Trackpad
Something about all the gestures makes me feel like a wizard with special powers. I really like feeling like a wizard with special powers.
Herman Miller Aeron Chair
If I’m going to slouch in the worst ergonomic position imaginable all day, I might as well do it in an expensive chair.
Development tools
VS Code
The VS Code ecosystem, especially with automatically synced settings, makes it a breeze to be product Day 1 on a new machine.
iTerm2
Ctrl-' and I'm ready to go! I prefer a dedicated Terminal with visor mode over the drawer in VS Code, since `pnpm create` doesn't have a folder to start in yet.
Design
Operator Mono
It was expensive, but I've really enjoyed using it for years. Particularly for the italics to different comments from code.
Relaxed
My favorite theme (for _everything_) that I've been using for years.
Productivity
Jumpcut
My preferred clipboard manager. Command+Shift+V brings up a bezel with up to 99 items from my clipboard history. Arrow-keys, then Enter, & I'm done!
Rectangle
My preferred window manager. I heavily use the keyboard shortcuts (e.g. Command+Option+Arrows) to toggle between 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 sizes.
Obsidian
Subscribed with Obsidian Sync, my Daily Kanban & notes are shared across all devices.
1Password
The best password solution that hasn't been hacked yet.
